Unified ERP Empowers Global Nonprofit to Better Serve Communities Worldwide
Sunrise has a long-standing customer relationship with this church, first deploying Microsoft Dynamics AX and later moving to a cloud-based ERP with Dynamics 365 and Sunrise. The church has over 30,000 congregations in more than 160 countries and territories.
SITUATION
The organization has used Dynamics for many years to run its operations and has a very large complex worldwide distribution network, multiple manufacturing locations, and distribution centers throughout the world. The print division of the organization oversees all printable materials that the church distributes to its congregations worldwide. These materials include books, magazines, newsletters, scriptures, and more. The print division is responsible for over 10 billion pages in over 100 languages. The church's print operations also include a fine art division, which prints and frames artwork for church buildings and community centers.
SOLUTION
Sunrise led a multi-phase project to modernize the organization’s ERP environment and implement Dynamics 365 Finance, Supply Chain, and Commerce across the enterprise. Key elements included:
- Migrating from Dynamics AX 2012 to Dynamics 365, including refactoring existing extensions and migrating many legacy integrations to the Microsoft Power Platform.
- Upgrading an automated central warehouse to integrate with Dynamics 365 for streamlined distribution and inventory control.
- Deploying ERP functionality into a shared legal entity that supports multiple divisions, including clothing manufacturing, distribution, and printing, requiring careful coordination and governance.
- Collaborating with additional partners to implement shop floor control and HMI solutions in manufacturing environments.
- Leveraging additional Microsoft technologies, including Power BI, Logic Apps, Azure Service Bus, Azure Database, and Azure Data Lake, as well as the Sunrise 365 Supply Chain and Retail Solution® for enhanced retail and supply chain capabilities.
OUTCOME
The organization is now live with a global, enterprise-scale deployment of Dynamics 365, supporting operations across its Distribution, Manufacturing, Welfare, and Print divisions. The unified platform has improved cross-divisional coordination, optimized inventory and production workflows, and enabled greater visibility into business operations. With a modern cloud-based ERP foundation in place, the organization is well-positioned to scale its mission, open new facilities, and expand its global impact. Sunrise’s leadership and technical expertise helped the organization future-proof its technology landscape—while continuing to serve communities around the world with efficiency and purpose.
